Visa connects consumers, businesses, financial institutions and governments in more than 200 countries and territories, enabling them to use digital currency instead of cash and checks. The company facilitates the processing of transactions on behalf of financial institutions and merchants through VisaNet, one of the world's most advanced processing networks capable of handling more than 10,000 transactions per second. In 2009, Visa's global network processed 62 billion operations with a total volume of $4.4 trillion.
